Trinity College, Oxford - Griffin
The griffin has the head of an eagle (king of the birds) and the body of a lion (king of the animals). Trinity's coat of arms has griffins in it, so the griffin can be considered the college bird/animal. The griffin appears in Alice in Wonderland because of the Trinity connection. The photos are of a NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art's bronze griffin head (1972-118.54) which has been on ddisplay since September 2008. The griffin head was acquired from a 1971 bequest by Walter C. Baker. Provenance is Olympia. Date is the third quarter of the 7th century BC. (See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griffin.)
