Goldsack
An Oxford rower is on her way to the Beijing Olympics but she needs your help!

Jennifer Goldsack (Somerville 2005) won the silver medal in the lightweight women's single sculls at the World Rowing Championships in Munich on September 1, 2007 representing the USA.

Jen is a British/American dual national and learned to row at Somerville where she soon became the rowing club president. She was on the winning lightweight women's eight at the 2003 Boat Race. She is very well placed to win at the US Olympic Team trials in May and represent the USA at the Beijing Olympics in the only lightweight category, the lightweight double.  Since January 3 she has been training at the US Olympic Center at Chula Vista, CA.

Jen rowed for Great Britain from 2004 to 2006.  It was a remarkable journey from being excluded from the Great Britain team to World Silver Medallist for the USA four months later. Jen's story has received much coverage in international rowing circles and her Oxford background tends to feature prominently. Her future is firmly in the USA.

As you know, rowing is a truly amateur sport. Jen has been committed to competing at the Beijing Olympics ever since her rowing days at Oxford.  American rowers are entirely self funding and Jen receives no support from any organization.

Please show your support by making a donation to her Olympic training fund. She has many challenges and expenses between now and August. In particular, she and her rowing partner need to travel to the World Cup in Poznan, Poland in June and qualify the boat for Beijing. All travel costs, including shipping the boat from London, have to be met by the athletes.

You can donate to Jen and claim a 501(c)3 federal tax deduction if you send a check payable to the Genesee Waterways Center. Write Olympic Fund on your check or cover letter and send it to the Genesee Waterways Center, PO Box 18607, Rochester, NY 14618. Jen's name should NOT appear on your check.

Also, corporate sponsorship would be very welcome, too.

Here are the links to Jen's final race at the FISA 2007 World Rowing Championships and her post-race interview.
